STEVEN GERRARD :BORN TO B A PLAYER OF LFC
Steven Gerrard was born 30 May 1980, Whiston, Merseyside. Having graduated from the Liverpool Youth Academy, he is now one of the most exciting talents in the English game. A midfielder who combines commitment, aggression, attacking instincts, he possesses the ability to create as well as score goals. In short, he is considered by many to be the complete player. He is usually employed in a central midfield role but, such is his versatility, he has often been deployed as a right-sided midfielder and has also been regularly deployed at right-back! His finest moment thus far came in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final against AC Milan, when he breathed fresh life into Liverpool by heading the first goal of their incredible comeback and ended the match patrolling the right flank as a makeshift full-back. He has won the PFA Young Player of the Year, PFA Player of the Year, European Midfielder of the year, Premier League Most Valuable Player (twice), and UEFA Most Valuable Player. He has also been awarded the MBE for his outstanding contributions to football. Steven Gerrard is one of only two people this century to score in both the UEFA Cup and Champions League finals and was honoured in a 2006 poll on the official club website by being voted Liverpool Football Club's 2nd most valuable player ever. Steven was given his international debut by Kevin Keegan against Ukraine on 31 May 2000, 18 months and only 44 games since his debut for the Liverpool first team. He has gone on to make 87 appearances for his country, scoring 19 goals and is now vice-captain - taking the captaincy for the 2010 World Cup in the absence of the injured Rio Ferdinand.
