Chris Gayle smashes fastest IPL hundred

Chris Gayle hits a 30-ball hundred
Chris Gayle pulverised Pune Warriors India with his power-hitting

Bangalore: Apr 23, 2013

Chris Gayle becomes the fastest centurion in Twenty20 formats for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in the 31st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The fastest hundred before this was Yusuf Pathan when he smashed a 37-ball century for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium in 2010.

Gayle brought up his 30-ball hundred by hitting a 112-meter long six off Luke Wright—the longest six off the
tournament .This hundred was punctuated by 11 sixes and eight boundaries.

Ishwar Pandey, the highest wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy season, was welcomed with scant respect. First couple of deliveries were hammered for boundaries. There was a rain interruption then. The thunderbolts from Gayle's bat were to follow. Pandey was hit for 21 in his first over.

Mitchell Marsh suffered the ignominy of conceeding most number of runs in a single over: 28 off his first over. Gayle smashed him for 6,6,4,0,6,6. After the end of Marsh's first over and fifth of Bangalore's innings the score was 61 without loss. Gayle's 17-ball 50 , was belligerence personified.

Gayle got his bearings right when he hit 29 runs off Pune captain, Aaron Finch in the seventh over.
