Condemning cancer as a "wretched disease," Pierce Brosnan, 60, has shared the news that his daughter has died of ovarian cancer. Charlotte was 41.In a statement to People mag, the James Bond star says:
"On June 28 at 2 p.m. my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean."
He goes on to say, "Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon."
He added thanks for the "heartfelt condolences."
Charlotte was Brosnan's daughter from his marriage to Cassandra Harris, a former Bond girl he married in 1980. He adopted Charlotte and her brother, Christopher, after their father died in 1986. Cassandra died in 1991, also succumbing to ovarian cancer.
Brosnan has two children with his second wife, Keely Shaye Smith: Dylan, 16, and Paris, 12.
Robert Davi, who starred in the Bond film Licence to Kill, posted on Twitter: "Just been informed – my friend Pierce Brosnan has lost his daughter to an illness – my prayers and love go out to him and his family."
Stephanie Zimbalist, who played opposite Pierce in Remington Steele, posted on Facebook: "Sad co-star news to announce. Please join us in sending love, prayers and sympathy to Pierce Brosnan and his family for the death of his daughter Charlotte."
